Riverside City College’s music department will hold its annual Concert for the Homeless 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, in the Henry W. Coil Sr. and Alice Edna Coil School for the Arts Concert Hall.

The concert will feature the college’s guitar, wind, jazz and percussion ensembles and proceeds will benefit the Path of Life Ministries homeless shelter in Riverside.

Admission is a minimum donation of $10. General admission tickets are available at www.coilschoolforthearts.com or on the day of the event at the Coil School for the Arts box office beginning at 3 p.m. Tickets are also available through the Landis Performing Arts Center box office or by calling 951-222-8100. The college suggests that children younger than 3 should not attend.

Path of Life Ministries is a nonprofit agency that has served Riverside since 1998.

The 2019 Riverside County Homeless Count and Survey Report identified 2,811 unsheltered and sheltered homeless people (2,045 unsheltered and 766 sheltered) in Riverside County, a 21% increase from 2018, according to a press release from Riverside City College.

Riverside City College’s Concert for the Homeless began after the music department moved downtown in 2016, to the Henry W. Coil, Sr. and Alice Edna Coil School for the Arts at 3890 University Ave.

The move inspired Peter Curtis, a professor or music, to get involved in a fundraiser for the homeless, and at the suggestion of Riverside City Councilman Mike Gardner, Curtis sought out the Path of Life Ministries homeless shelter, according to the press release.
